Broadway is considered one of the longest streets in the world, running the entire length of Manhattan and continuing into the Bronx. It was built following a path first laid out by Native Americans. This portion of Broadway runs down the middle of the financial district including Wall Street.
Post 9/11 the World Trade Center redevelopment has been mired in construction delays, cost overruns, political wrangling and the current economic downturn. Originally slated to be completely finished sometime between 2012 and 2015, its completion date is now uncertain.
The lesser known cousin of the New York Stock Exchange, the American Stock Exchange along with the Nasdaq are the three major exchanges for the American stock market. Billions of shares of smaller and lesser known companies are traded here daily.
