At the time of its completion in 1883, this neo-gothic new world wonder was the longest suspension bridge in the world. The Brooklyn Bridge connected what were then the twin cities of New York and Brooklyn. Its completion spurred the joining of the two cities along with Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island to form the New York City we know of today.
